What is Shopee Pay Later?

Shopee Pay Later, which is also called SPayLater, is a buy now, pay later service available to select ShopeePay users¹. You may be eligible to use SPayLater to split your purchase cost into installments which you repay in up to 12 months, with variable fees and interest depending on the purchase details and your personal situation.

Not all customers have access to this facility - if you can use SPayLater you’ll be able to activate it when you shop with Shopee. There are fees of up to 7% of the purchase cost which includes both a processing fee and a variable interest rate. The interest rate depends on various factors, which can mean you get differing rates on different purchases.

Once you have a SPayLater credit facility you need to set up automatic or manual repayments. So - can I pay Shopee Pay Later using GCash? Read on to learn about how to repay your loan once you have it.

Shopee Pay Later requirements

When you get SPayLater facilities, ShopeePay works with third parties to offer a credit line to you, covering the eligible purchases. The third party provider will need to check your identity and creditworthiness to assess whether or not they can extend this facility to you. This means that the requirements in place may be dictated by the third party, rather than by ShopeePay itself.

Shopee Pay Later requirements can include²:

  • You must be a citizen or legal resident of the Philippines
  • You must pass the credit score test carried out by the lender
  • You’ll need to provide some information and documents to show your identity and other personal information
  • You must not have previously defaulted on loans, and you must not have outstanding tax liabilities which would make it impossible to repay your credit

When you apply for SPayLater facilities, the provider will check your creditworthiness and personal information against their internal eligibility criteria. If you do not pass the test, your application will be rejected and the provider isn’t obliged to tell you why.
