Remitly¹ offers international transfers on a broad range of payment routes globally, making it a popular and convenient service to send and receive money. This guide walks through how to use Remitly to receive money in Ireland.
Plus we’ll touch on another option: Wise. With an Wise Account, you can receive money via local account details in 8+ currencies, with no fees.
Yes, you can receive money through Remitly in Ireland in various ways. For customers in Ireland the most common options are²:
- Receive money to a bank account
- Receive money as cash
We’ll cover how to receive money with Remitly using each method next.
You can receive money to your Irish EUR bank account with Remitly. In this case you’ll need to give the sender your banking information, which usually includes:
- Your IBAN
- Your bank’s SWIFT/BIC code
- Your full name as shown on your account
The sender can then set up the Remitly payment and the money is deposited to your bank once the payment is processed.
You can also ask the sender to arrange your payment as a cash transfer. In this case they’ll send the money to a Remitly agent local to you, and you can go along with your ID documents to collect your payment in euros.³
No. You don't need a Remitly account to receive money from someone.⁴ You can have the sender arrange the transfer to your euro bank account, or as a cash payment for you to collect locally instead.
There’s no receiving fee when you get a payment through Remitly. All costs are covered by the person sending the money.
Yes, you can receive international transfers with Remitly from 170+ countries globally.
However, Remitly does not offer local account information, which means you need to get your payment either to your local Irish bank in euros, or as cash.
In either case, the sender will need to have Remitly convert the money from their local currency to EUR. As Remitly doesn't explain where their exchange rate comes from, it's always a good idea to compare with the mid-market rate to check if any markup it's being added.
If you’d prefer to receive your money in the sender’s home currency without needing to pay for the conversion, you can do so with an account from a provider like Wise.
With a Wise Account you can get local account details for 8+ currencies like GBP, USD and AUD. So you can give the sender your Wise account details and then receive the payment with no Wise fee.
The amount of time it can take to receive money through Remitly depends on the payment and receive method selected. The sender will get an estimate when they arrange the payment, and can then track the transfer to see when the money is available to you.
Remitly has limits on the amount that the sender can transfer, which effectively puts a cap on the amount you can receive. This limit varies depending on the country the sender is in - it’s 30,000 EUR for countries in the Eurozone, as an example.

If you’d prefer more flexible ways to receive money from overseas, check out Wise.
Open your Wise Account online or in the Wise app, and you'll get local account details for +8 currencies, including in GBP and EUR, making it easy to send or receive money. This means you'll be able to use your account details to safely receive money in the local currency, without having to go through an international transfer.
The person sending you money can make a local payment - often free or cheap for them, and there’s no Wise fee to get paid with local account information.
You can also get paid to your Wise account by giving the sender your email address or phone number, your Wisetag, or a payment request which you can generate in a few taps of the Wise app.
