Venmo is popular in particular as it lets you send payments to others in USD with no transfer fee as long as you pay using a bank account or debit card.
Transfers can be made with just your recipient’s name and contact information, which is easier than remembering bank account details. There is also a social element to payments, allowing you to send messages and emojis when you pay. But can you use Venmo in Ireland? Read on to learn more.
No. You can’t use Venmo in Ireland for sending payments to others.
To use Venmo you must have a US based bank account and you must be physically in the US at the time of making a payment.² If you have an Irish bank, or if you’re using an American bank but on a trip to Ireland, your Venmo account won’t be available for transfers.
Got a US based Venmo account and card already? If you use a Venmo debit or credit card you can still use this while you’re in Ireland.³ Just look out for the card logo sign (Visa or Mastercard depending on the card type) displayed at payment terminals or ATMs.
Yes. Venmo is available for payments within the US, made from one bank to another in USD only.
The main exception to this is if you have a Venmo issued debit or credit card. In this case you can use your card to spend when you’re overseas, but do check the fees which apply before transacting.
No. You can’t use Venmo for making payments in Europe. Instead, consider using an alternative service like the Wise Account.

No. You can not use your Venmo account for transfers if you are outside of the US, or if the recipient is outside of the US. Venmo does not have overseas transfer services, and you can’t access your account if you travel abroad.
Zelle and Venmo are different companies which offer similar services - but they’re not exactly the same.
Zelle payments are usually available through logging into your bank account, with no transfer fee - but don’t offer any social features. Venmo has social perks like sending messages and emojis when you transfer, and also offers credit and debit card services.
