Payments with Lydia in France: how to make them and how much do they cost?
Payments with Lydia are made by card or via bank transfer. Here are the prices and procedures for the different transactions.
Fortuneo is now a key and convenient player with hundreds of thousands of customers and numerous services.
International banking is becoming simpler thanks to the flexibility of online banks, but transferring money in a foreign currency can still seem complicated and sometimes result in significant costs.
In this article, you'll discover all the international transfer methods available with Fortuneo, including their rates based on the destination country and currency.
To avoid often high fees, alternative methods exist, such as Wise, which allows for efficient and fast money transfers at a lower cost.
Example: You wish to send €1,000 from your Fortuneo online account to a dollar account in the United States. You pay all transfer fees (OUR option).¹
| Provider | Commission | Exchange Rate | Total Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fortuneo | 0.1% (min. €23) + exchange commission: 0.1% (min. €15) + €11 + receiving fee | 1% on the exchange rate applied | €49 + 1% on the exchange rate + receiving fee |
| Wise | 0.62% | Mid-market exchange rate | €6.21 |
The rates presented in this article are from the official website of the Fortuneo online bank, effective since March 18, 2025. They apply to transfers made by individuals using their online account. Commissions and fees may vary depending on individual agreements between Fortuneo and its clients, the transfer amount, and the currencies sent.
With Fortuneo online banking, international transfers, whether within or outside the SEPA zone, are made exclusively online. To do this, you must complete an online transfer request by logging in to your account and selecting Transfers. You will need to add the recipient to the list of beneficiaries if no transfer has ever been made to them.
For transfers outside the SEPA zone, the applicant must complete an international transfer request in PDF format available on the bank's website. Be sure to clearly specify who is responsible for paying the transfer fees if you wish to make special arrangements.
The international transfer request is a form that must be printed and completed. It must then be returned to Fortuneo. It can be sent electronically by logging in via the "Customer Access" tab and then "Contact Us." The email subject line must clearly state "Transfer/Instruction." The transfer form can also be sent by fax or mail.²
To complete the international transfer request, you will need to provide Fortuneo with the following information:²
For transfers outside the SEPA zone, you will also need to specify the destination of the funds sent and the currency. Finally, you will be able to choose the allocation of the various fees (sending and receiving).
The information requested is generally the same if you need to receive an international transfer. In this case, be sure to have a bank account number (RIB) with your account's IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code. Again, for a transfer outside the SEPA zone, don't forget to specify whether you wish to share the sending and receiving fees or if special arrangements need to be made.
Processing times for international transfers vary mainly depending on the recipient's location. Fortuneo states a processing time of 24 to 72 hours. If the transaction is entered before 6:00 p.m., the value date of the transaction will be the same day.³
Transfers within the SEPA zone are generally faster than transfers to other countries. The SEPA zone currently covers the 27 countries of the European Union, as well as 14 other countries in Europe.
Transfers outside the SEPA zone are most often dependent on the number of intermediary institutions. It is advisable to contact a Fortuneo advisor directly for specific information depending on the country of the transfer recipient.
Transfers to countries within the SEPA zone are completely free when sent online from a Fortuneo account. Otherwise, a €5 fee applies.¹
Receiving SEPA transfers is completely free.¹
Both accounts must be denominated in euros, information such as IBAN and BIC/SWIFT must be provided, and the fees must be considered shared (SHARE mode).
International transfers are subject to a fee. A fixed receiving fee of €12 is applied with the "SHARE" option if one of the accounts is not in the SEPA zone or in a currency other than the euro.¹
If you are the sender of a transfer outside the SEPA zone, foreign exchange fees and a premium exchange rate will be applied.¹
| Transfer type | Origination fee | Foreign exchange commission | Foreign exchange margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Non-SEPA transfer | * SHARE: 0.1% (min. €23) * OUR: 0.1% (min. €23) + €11 + Receiving fee | 0.1% (min. €15) | 1% on the exchange rate applied |
Be careful about the accuracy of the account data transmitted to Fortuneo: a €6 fee may apply if information such as the IBAN or BIC is incorrect.
While the fees announced are relatively clear, the international SWIFT transfer process involves passing the amount through numerous institutions, each of which may charge a fee. The exact amount received is therefore difficult for individuals to estimate.
To make or receive a bank transfer to your Fortuneo account, please contact an advisor at 02 98 00 29 00 (toll-free number) to find out the specific conditions depending on the country of the recipient account.
Alternative money transfer solutions such as Wise have the advantage of clarifying the process compared to traditional methods. Fees are clearly indicated upfront, and the mid-market exchange rate is applied, without any markup.
