Olesya Mets

A euro account is useful if you often pay in euros, for example when traveling or shopping online, or for receiving your salary in EUR. If you are an mBank customer, you'll be disappointed to learn that mBank doesn't yet offer a euro account.¹ You can still make payments in EUR, but at what cost? Get acquainted with the euro accounts offered by other banks.

We're also introducing the Wise account which allows you to have local account details in 9+ currencies, including EUR, USD, and GBP — all in one place. You can convert your money at the mid-market rate, and we'll show you the fees upfront.

mBank doesn't have a euro account – what do EUR payments from a standard account cost?

Although mBank doesn't offer a euro account, you can still send or receive payments in EUR from your Czech account. What are the fees involved?

  • SEPA transfers, or payments in EUR within the European Economic Area, are free of charge.
  • Payments in EUR outside the EEA are treated as standard international payments. Sending one incurs a fee of 0.5% of the transfer amount, with a minimum charge of 300 CZK and a maximum of 1,000 CZK. Receiving such a payment costs 100 CZK.²

mBank's exchange rate

The exchange rate also significantly affects the cost of EUR payments. You can determine if mBank's rate is favorable by comparing it to the mid-market rate, which is set by national banks.

🔍 Example: How much CZK would you be charged if you paid €500 in a German online store using mBank's exchange rate versus the mid-market rate used by Wise?

ProviderAmount Paid (incl. fees)²Exchange Rate (1 EUR)
mBank12,487 CZK24.9742 CZK³
Wise12,024 CZK24.2375 CZK

Data valid as of the article's publication date.

With mBank, you would pay 463 CZK more than with Wise. This clearly shows that having a euro account is beneficial because you lose money on the exchange rate.

☝️ Just as mBank does not offer a euro account, it also does not offer accounts in any other foreign currency.
