Imagine you want to send euros to your Fio euro account, but first you need to convert them from Czech korunas. You send 20,000 CZK, how much will you receive?
Look to the first table for the answer. The amount is 802 EUR.³ How come you receive 825.50 EUR for the same transaction with Wise?
The answer is clear – you receive more with Wise thanks to the mid-market rate. This is the rate similar to the one you'll find on Google. Other banks usually don't offer it to their clients. They only use it for interbank transfers and charge customers an average markup of 2–4%.
Wise, however, uses the mid-market rate in all cases. The transfer happens for a small fee, which you'll see before sending money.
You've opened a euro account with Fio, traveled abroad, and now you'd like to withdraw cash from an ATM. How much will you pay in fees?
It depends on which debit card you have. If you use a Visa card, you won't pay a penny for withdrawals. With MasterCard, it's a bit more complex. You can withdraw for free twice a month. Subsequent withdrawals will cost you 25 CZK. However, if you meet certain conditions, you can have 3 additional free withdrawals – you get an extra free withdrawal for every 160 EUR in card transactions made in the previous month. You can have up to five free withdrawals per month.¹
You can, of course, also withdraw at a bank, but only within the Czech Republic. For EUR withdrawals, expect a fee of 30 CZK if you withdraw more than 1,000 CZK; otherwise, the service is free. For CZK and USD withdrawals, you'll pay 0.5% of the amount, with a minimum of 75 CZK and a maximum of 250 CZK.¹
