🔍 Quick example: You're sending 1,200 EUR from your CZK account to a German account. How much will you pay in Czech korunas with ČSOB versus Wise?
| Provider | Total cost including fees¹ | Exchange rate for 1 EUR |
|---|---|---|
| ČSOB | 29,976 CZK | 24.98 CZK² |
| Wise | 29,394 CZK | 24.38 CZK |
Data valid as of the article's writing date.
With ČSOB, this international payment would cost you 582 CZK more than with Wise. This is solely due to the exchange rate, which ČSOB offers at a less favorable rate. We'll look at this in more detail later in the article.
How much will you pay for the international payment itself? It depends on the currency you're sending and the destination.
Like most banks, ČSOB offers free euro payments to countries within the European Economic Area. However, if you choose to make the payment at a branch, be prepared for a 144 CZK fee.¹
When sending money outside the EEA, you'll face a fee of 1% of the amount being sent. The minimum charge is 250 CZK, even if you're only sending a few hundred korunas. These are the rules. The maximum fee is capped at 1,500 CZK.¹
Whether you pay a fee for a transaction or not, you'll always lose out due to currency conversion. ČSOB sets its own exchange rates by adding a margin of approximately 2–4% to the mid-market exchange rate. This allows them to profit from the exchange, while you lose money. Unfortunately, this is common banking practice.

If you don't want to lose money unnecessarily, send payments abroad with a Wise multi-currency account. Wise uses the mid-market exchange rate for all currency exchanges, which is the rate financial markets operate on. You can also manage 40+ currencies on your account without paying any account maintenance fees.

The easiest and cheapest way is through online banking. First, you'll need the recipient's account details in international format. For SEPA payments, an IBAN will suffice. For other international payments, you'll typically need the bank's BIC (SWIFT) code, its country, and the recipient's name and address.³
You can also submit a payment in person at a branch. Just be aware that in addition to the payment fee, you'll also pay 144 CZK for the payment processing itself.¹ You can speed up the process by bringing a completed international transfer order form.
A payment from abroad will arrive in your account without you needing to do anything: simply share your bank details in international format with the sender.
Wondering: "Where can I find ČSOB's IBAN and BIC?"
You can find your ČSOB IBAN in your online banking within your account details or on your bank statement. You can also find the ČSOB BIC code: CEKOCZPP.³
Incoming SEPA payments are free. Any other incoming international payment to ČSOB costs 1% of the amount, with a minimum of 150 CZK and a maximum of 1,000 CZK.¹
SEPA payments reach the recipient's account within two working days at the latest. Other international transfers may take longer. Although ČSOB dispatches the money on the next working day, the speed also depends on the intermediary banks.³
Making an international payment with ČSOB isn't overly complicated. However, you need to be prepared that if you send money from your CZK account, its value will decrease during transit due to the exchange rate. Want the mid-market rate? You know where to find it.
