First, let's clarify what the term SEPA payment means. It refers to international transfers within the European Economic Area. The goal is to enable easy and inexpensive EUR transactions throughout the region. This is why payments are fast and almost free with most banks.
How much does a Revolut SEPA payment cost? Nothing.² Revolut has followed the same path as most banks and offers SEPA payments for free across all its plans. However, the Revolut EUR exchange rate still plays a role in the final price. You'll learn more about that later in this article.
With Revolut, fees come into play only when you want to send money in a currency other than EUR or to a destination outside of Europe. The cost is variable and calculated as a percentage of the transferred amount. You can find the individual percentage rates in the table; they vary depending on the destination currency.
| Currency | Variable fee | Minimum fee | Maximum fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| GBP | 0.15% | 14 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| USD | 0.15% | 28 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| CAD | 0.15% | 21.70 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| CHF | 0.15% | 32.60 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| HUF | 0.15% | 11.10 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| PLN | 0.15% | 20.60 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| AUD | 0.15% | 21 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
| NZD | 0.15% | 22 CZK | 7,500 CZK |
If you intend to transfer EUR but the destination country is not included in the SEPA zone, you will pay a fixed fee of 100 CZK. The same applies to pounds, dollars, and Swiss francs sent to a country that does not have them as its primary currency.⁴
The cost of your Revolut SEPA payment also depends on your plan. Revolut distinguishes between five subscription types:
They differ in price and services. Standard is free; the other subscription types will cost you. Find out more about the differences in this table:
| Plan | Monthly fee¹ | Free withdrawals per month¹ | International transfer¹ ⁴ | Free weekday currency exchange² |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Free | Up to 4,500 CZK or 5 withdrawals, then 2% | 0.15% with specified minimum and maximum | Up to 25,000 CZK, then 1% |
| Plus | 114.99 CZK | Up to 4,500 CZK, then 2% | 0.15% with specified minimum and maximum | Up to 75,000 CZK, then 0.5% |
| Premium | 244.99 CZK | Up to 9,000 CZK, then 2% | 0.15% with specified minimum and maximum + 20% discount | Free (no limit) |
| Metal | 394.99 CZK | Up to 22,000 CZK, then 2% | 0.15% with specified minimum and maximum + 40% discount | Free (no limit) |
| Ultra | 1,320 CZK | Up to 55,000 CZK, then 2% | Free | Free (no limit) |
If you are primarily concerned with SEPA payments, note the line for the percentage fee for currency exchange. In the Standard and Plus plans, Revolut specifies a limit (25,000 and 75,000 CZK) within which you can exchange to another currency monthly without a fee. After that, prepare for a payment of 0.5–1% of the amount. Since SEPA payments are made in EUR and require a conversion from CZK, this also applies to them.
Revolut sets its own exchange rate. Its advantage is that it's close to the mid-market rate, which is the pure rate determined by the market. Other banks typically add a 2–4% markup to profit from the exchange. Revolut either adds no markup or a very small one. Wise uses the mid-market rate entirely without markups.
In certain situations, Revolut charges an additional markup to its exchange rate. This primarily occurs on weekends when the market is closed. Revolut uses this to hedge against currency fluctuations. For example, with the Standard plan, you will pay a 1% fee on weekends.²
You can open a Wise account completely free of charge and get the mid-market rate without markups. How can Wise afford this? It's simple!
Wise has accounts in local currencies in most countries. When you send a SEPA payment from your Czech account to Austria, your CZK money is first converted to a Wise account in the Czech Republic. At the same time, an equivalent amount in EUR is debited from Wise's EUR account in Austria and sent to the recipient's account. This way, Wise successfully avoids any markups. You only pay a fair fee for the transfer, which you can calculate in advance. Even before registering. For example, right here.
Open your Wise account for free, quickly and easily. All you'll need is your ID and a mobile device – there's no need to visit a bank office.
