What is Dragonpay? Guide on features, fees, and more

Karthik Rajakumar

Online payments in the Philippines do not rely on a single system. Customers complete transactions in different ways depending on what is most convenient for them.

Dragonpay brings these payment options together. The platform allows customers to pay via e-wallets, credit cards, online banking, or over-the-counter payment centers.

If you're a business owner searching for a flexible digital payment platform, then Dragonpay might be the solution. It makes online transactions more flexible for your business and more accessible for your customers.

Keep reading to learn what it is, how it works, and how it can streamline your local and cross-border transactions, especially when paired with Wise Business.

What is Dragonpay?

Dragonpay is a Philippine-based third-party payment gateway*1. It connects merchants and buyers by processing payments across multiple channels, including banks, e-wallets, and over-the-counter outlets.

The platform bridges the gap between the country's low credit card ownership—with only 1 in 20 consumers owning a card2—and its growing adoption of digital payment systems. Dragonpay's services allow customers to pay in cash or via alternative payment methods, making online transactions more accessible to Filipinos.

Additionally, Dragonpay also supports e-commerce growth by providing secure, accessible cross-border payment solutions to merchants and international businesses.

Recurring payments

Dragonpay makes it easy to manage recurring payments, such as subscriptions, loan repayments, or monthly bills. Unlike credit cards that charge a percentage per transaction, Dragonpay charges fixed fees.

Mass payout

If you need to pay multiple people at once, Dragonpay's mass payout feature handles that. It's useful for payroll, supplier payments, or disbursements. You can pay them via:

  • Bank credit
  • Cash pickup
  • E-wallets
  • Digital banks

Dragonpay Credits

Dragonpay Credits is a prepaid mobile wallet built into the Dragonpay app. Top it up using any available payment channel, then use it to pay at any Dragonpay-supported merchant. Payment is done by scanning a QR code.

Prepaid load

If you manage people in the field, you can buy prepaid load for them through Dragonpay. This is useful for:

  • Retail outlets
  • Sales teams
  • Field technicians

RFID Topup

If you manage a logistics fleet, you can top up its RFID through Dragonpay, making it easier to manage your fleet's tollway expenses. Dragonpay supports both Autosweep and Easytrip RFID accounts.

How to create a Dragonpay account

Setting up a Dragonpay account is free, and applications are typically processed within 1 to 2 business days. Here's how it works.

*Note: You have to contact Dragonpay's sales team if you need a Standard Merchant Account.

  7. Choose your biller type:
    • Website Integrated (API) Biller: Best for e-commerce sites. Customers choose their payment method directly at checkout on your site

Once you've selected your biller type, expect an email from Dragonpay's technical team within 1 to 2 business days with the next steps.

Phase 2: Integration5

After registration, you have to submit to Dragonpay the following requirements:

  • DTI or SEC papers (including Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws)
  • BIR Certificate of Registration
  • Latest business permits (e.g., mayor's permit, BIR)
  • A utility bill with your registered address
  • A scanned copy of your passbook showing the account name and number for settlement

You can submit one or two documents first to get the process moving. Just note that you'll need to complete all document requirements before you can receive payouts.

For Generic Biller users:

Once your documents are approved, you'll receive your live account credentials. Log in to your admin platform and start collecting payments right away.

For API Integrated Biller users:

The process involves a testing phase before your live account is activated. Here's how it goes:

  1. Forward the full API specifications to your website developer to implement the postback and return URLs
  2. Send the URLs to Dragonpay so they can set it up on their end
  3. Dragonpay will notify you when you're ready for testing
  4. Submit screenshots of the following:
    • The Dragonpay payment method selection page (including the address bar)
    • Your return URL page, where customers land after payment
    • Your admin orders page shows the transaction ID and status
