Passport requirements in the Philippines

The requirements to apply for your Filipino passport¹ depend on your age and whether you’ve had a passport before.

For an adult applying for a first passport you’ll need to have the following²:

  • A confirmed appointment to attend your passport application meeting in person
  • A completed application form
  • Your birth certificate
  • Your marriage certificate (for married women using their husband’s surname)
  • A copy of one of the following forms of acceptable ID³:
    • Philippine Identification (PhilID)
    • Electronic Philippine ID
    • Digital National ID

These are the core documents usually needed - but there may be some additional paperwork which can be accepted or may be requested. If you don’t have any of the ID documents listed above, there are alternative options you may pick from - and the authorities may also ask for extra documents in some cases. This can happen if your documents are hard to read or contain errors, or if you’re a naturalised citizen for example.

Application requirements for minors

If you’re applying for a passport on behalf of a child, you’ll need the following⁴:

  • Attendance at a passport application meeting in person - both the applicant and an adult parent or guardian
  • A completed application form
  • Applicant’s birth certificate
  • ID cards for the applicant and an adult parent or guardian

If the child you’re applying for does not yet have a birth certificate, there are some alternative application routes which can help, such as providing a Certified True Copy (CTC) of Local Civil Registrar (LCR) Birth Certificate authenticated by the PSA.

For renewal applicants

If you’re renewing a passport application you may find the document requirements are a little different⁵. You must still arrange an in person meeting and you’ll need to take along your original passport. If you’re getting a new passport due to a change of name you’ll be asked to provide paperwork to show the reason for this, such as a marriage or divorce for example.

As renewal reasons may vary - passports may expire or be lost, damaged or stolen, or your personal details may change - you’ll need to check the exact requirements based on your renewal type.
