Does AIB apply transfer limits from Ireland?

Yes. There’s a specific AIB transfer limit² for payments made digitally, which may depend on whether you have a personal or business account. There’s also a cumulative AIB daily transfer limit which covers most transfer types, as well as sublimits which are set for security on specific payment types.

There’s no way to make an AIB increase limit online, but you may find that the AIB in branch transfer limit is higher if you need to send more than the digital payment cap. This guide walks through all you need to know.

What are the AIB transfer limits?

The AIB bank transfer limit may depend on the way you arrange your payment. How to increase the AIB transfer limits

You can’t change the limit for AIB digital transfers. However, if you need to send a higher value transfer, AIB might be able to help you in a branch or by phone instead.

It’s helpful to know that the AIB fees you pay might be higher if you’re making a transfer in a branch using a paper instruction, rather than setting your transfer up online or in the AIB app.³

When does AIB transfer limit reset?

AIB has transfer limits which apply per payment and per day. The specific time that limits reset isn’t detailed online, but you can check with your branch directly if you’re struggling to make a payment due to the limits applied.

It’s also helpful to know that any transfers you set up on a non banking day are added to the limit on your account on the next working day. This means that payments you arrange on a weekend, for example, are used towards your Monday limit.

In summary, AIB has a daily cumulative payment limit which applies on the total value of transfers you arrange using AIB Kiosk, AIB Phone and AIB Internet Banking. There are also some sublimits covering things like payments to new recipients, which can impact the amount you can send.

If you’re not sure about the limits which apply on your specific account, you can call the bank on 0818 724 724 to check.
