In this guide we'll walk you through the exact steps on how to cancel Spotify, whether you're billed directly by Spotify or through a third party.

You can cancel your Spotify subscription either directly through Spotify (if you signed up via their website) or via the third-party billing service used when you subscribed (for example, Apple Music/App Store, Google Play, or even a mobile carrier).
The Premium Individual plan1 can be cancelled at any time via your Spotify account page or a third-party billing platform. No refunds are issued for any unused days.
The Premium Duo plan1 allows only the plan manager to cancel the subscription. When they cancel, both members lose Premium access at the end of the billing cycle and revert to Free. The same applies to those on the Premium Family plan1. Cancellation must be done by the plan manager. Members who were part of the Family plan will revert to Spotify Free once the plan ends. Family address verification requirements are not affected by cancellation.
When you cancel, you retain all Premium benefits until the end of your current billing period2. No matter which plan you're on, once you cancel, your Premium features stay active until the end of your current billing cycle. Once that period ends, you revert to the free, ad-supported version and keep your playlists, saved songs, and account history.
Spotify does not use notice periods. Your cancellation simply stops the next automatic renewal, as long as it is completed before your billing date. Cancelling one day before renewal still applies, because Spotify charges at the start of your billing cycle. To avoid being charged again, it's best to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date, especially if you subscribed via Apple or Google Play.
If you signed up for Spotify Premium via Spotify's website, follow these steps1:
You should receive a confirmation email once your cancellation has gone through. You can also submit a cancellation claim through a form found on their website.
However, you cannot cancel directly through the Spotify mobile app. You must use a web browser (like Safari or Chrome) on your phone, tablet, or desktop computer.
If you subscribed to Spotify through a third-party billing service, such as the App Store or Google Play, you cannot cancel via the Spotify website. Instead, you must use the billing provider's subscription management system.

If you're considering cancelling simply to cut costs or because you're unsure whether you'll want Premium later, you have alternatives. You can downgrade to Spotify Free, which keeps your account and content. You can also share a Premium plan (like Family or Duo) instead of an individual subscription, which still provides most benefits at a lower per-user cost.
You might also want to evaluate how often you actually use Spotify: if it's just occasional, the Free version might suffice until you want Premium again. That way, you keep your playlists, library, and listening history intact while avoiding billing.
Spotify does not currently offer a "pause subscription" option. If you stop paying, your account reverts to the free plan at the end of the billing period2. So rather than "pausing," you're essentially downgrading, and, if you sign up again later, your data, playlists, and account history remain available.
If your goal is to keep Premium but simply change how you pay, for example, switch to another credit card or a different billing account, you don't need to cancel. Instead, update your payment details in Spotify's account settings under "Payment methods". That way, you maintain uninterrupted Premium benefits and avoid reentering preferences or reactivating your plan.

If your Spotify plan is billed in another currency (for instance, because you signed up while abroad), it can also be worth switching your payment to a Wise account and Wise card. Spotify does not offer pro-rated refunds or credits if you cancel partway through a billing cycle. Once you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the paid period, and then switches to the free plan. No refund or credit is issued for the remainder of the month2.
If you believe you were charged incorrectly, or subscribed under a promotion or discount, your recourse is to contact Spotify Support, but in general, cancellation simply means you don't get billed next cycle.
Re-subscription is simple. Once you decide to return to Premium, log in to your Spotify account, go to the "Plans" or "Subscription" section, and choose the Premium plan you prefer (Individual, Duo, Family, or Student). Add your payment method and confirm.
If you previously subscribed through Apple or Google Play, go back to Subscriptions in your Apple ID or Google Play account and look for Spotify, then resubscribe. Your account, along with your library, playlists, and listening history, will be restored under the new plan.
