These are the steps involved in ordering foreign currency, including euros, at RBC!1
RBC states that its exchange rates are competitive, but the specific rate isn’t disclosed upfront. Instead, you’ll have to initiate the purchase process before seeing the rate that will apply to your foreign currency transaction.1
According to RBC’s foreign exchange rate page, they use the most current market rates, but rates fluctuate regularly. For an exact figure, you would need to proceed through the order process.
Wise offers an alternative for money conversion at the mid-market exchange rate—free from hidden markups—and can hold and convert more than 40 currencies, including euros.
The mid-market exchange rate is the rate banks and large financial institutions use to trade currencies among themselves. Also referred to as a "real" exchange rate, it’s free from markups or hidden fees, helping you keep your hard-earned cash.
Wise is transparent, charging minimal fees that start at just 0.48%*, making it an affordable option for converting currency.
Another standout feature is the free Wise card, which simplifies travel finances by allowing cash withdrawals at ATMs and payments wherever Mastercard is accepted—without high transaction fees.
Converting money with Wiseis easy and can be done directly from your Wise account. Here’s how:
Following confirmation, the money will be converted within a few seconds and available in your Wise account. You can either hold it in your account or spend it using your Wise card.
Please note that Wise has daily conversion limits on conversion frequency between balances. Personal users are permitted to make up to 15 conversions within 24 hours, while business users have up to 75 conversions in the same time limit.
Depending on your chosen branch, it typically takes 3 to 10 business days for the cash to arrive—though many customers receive it within 3 business days.2
RBC imposes daily ordering limits: personal customers can order up to 2,500 CAD within 24 hours, and RBC Business Banking customers up to 5,000 CAD in the same period.2
When preparing for a trip to Europe, there are several ways to ensure you have the euros you need. While you can order euros at RBC, keep in mind that the exchange rate isn't revealed until you're deep into the purchase process. Alternatively, Wise offers a flexible and cost-effective way to convert your money at the mid-market exchange rate, with minimal fees and no hidden charges.
