If you’re having trouble paying for a transfer with your connected US bank account (ACH), it’s usually due to bank security, account limits, or insufficient funds.
I can't log in to my bank account
If you’re seeing an error when trying to link your account:
Check your login details: Ensure you’re using your bank's credentials, not your Wise password.
Confirm 2-step verification: Check that your bank has your correct mobile number or email for their security codes.
Verify bank permissions: Some banks require you to enable 'Third-party access' or 'Bill Pay' in your settings before you can connect to Wise.
Business accounts: If you use Wise Business, every team member must link the bank account individually. You cannot use a connection verified by another user.

Why am I being asked to reconnect my account?
Banks often break the connection for security purposes—sometimes every month or every 120 days. You may also need to reconnect if:
Your bank account balance needs to be refreshed.
You’ve changed your bank password recently.
You see an expired connection error. If this happens, check your bank’s security or privacy settings to ensure Wise still has permission to access your account.
I don't see the ACH payment option
You might have reached your ACH sending limits. If you exceed these, the option will be hidden.
| Account Type | 60-day Rolling Limit |
|---|---|
| Personal | $250,000 USD |
| Business | $400,000 USD |
If you live in Nevada, different limits apply:
Per transfer: $50,000 USD
Per 24 hours: $10,000 USD
Per 12 months: $250,000 USD
Tip: If you’re sending more than $10,000 USD, you can always pay another way, such as with a wire transfer.
Why does it say I have insufficient funds?
When you pay by ACH, our system checks if your balance can cover all Wise transfers you’ve requested in the last 4 business days.
Wait for funds to settle: If you’ve made other payments recently, you may need to wait 3–4 working days for those to clear before you can pay by ACH again.
Settled funds only: We can only see settled money. Pending deposits or overdraft protection cannot be used for ACH payments.
Why is my ACH payment slower than usual?
ACH payments usually take 1–4 working days to reach Wise.
Verification method: If you verified your account using micro-deposits, your payments may be slower (usually 3 working days).
Speed it up: To get faster transfers, try reconnecting your account using instant verification (logging in with your bank username and password).
