How to use Wise to receive RSU payouts as an American

Ucha Vekua

For many American professionals, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) represent a significant – and often complex – portion of their total compensation.

The logistics of receiving those funds can be a headache, especially when you're trying to avoid the steep currency conversion fees and wire charges typical of traditional banks.

Wise can help you avoid the unfavorable exchange rates offered by many equity platforms and direct your payouts into a dedicated USD account.

This guide walks you through receiving your RSU payouts using Wise.

Step-by-step guide for receiving RSU payouts in the US using Wise

Step 1: Set up Wise account for receiving

Follow these steps to make sure you have USD account details to receive the cash payout: 34

  1. Open Wise (app or web) and add USD to your account.
  2. Go to your USD balance and select Get account details.
  3. Once enabled, open USD → Account details and copy/save:
  • Routing number (for ACH or Wire)
  • Account number
  • Your name as shown on the Wise account
  • Receiving ACH payments is generally free. Domestic wires and international Swift payments incur a small receiving fee of $6.11

Step 2: Add Wise as your payout bank in your RSU broker portal

In your broker/RSU platform, go to Payout / Transfer / Distribution / Bank instructions and choose USD as the payout currency. 4

If the broker is paying from a US bank, select ACH (preferred) or Domestic wire and enter: 4

  • Routing number (ACH or Wire—use the one your broker asks for)
  • Account number
  • Account type: Checking (Wise explicitly notes “Checking” for sender forms)
  • Account holder name (your name as shown on Wise)

If the broker is paying from outside the US (or insists on international wire), choose Swift and enter the international USD details shown in Wise, typically:5

  • Swift/BIC
  • Account number
  • Bank name and address (from your Wise USD account details screen)
  • Include required addresses (Wise notes Swift payments without addresses may be rejected)

Step 3: Receive your payout in Wise

When the payout arrives, it will be credited to your USD balance in Wise and appear in Transactions. From there you can hold USD, convert, or send to an external bank account. 4

P.S. If your broker asks for verification of your bank details, download a proof of account details document from Wise (USD balance → three dots → Get proof of account details). 1
