What is Seis Bank?

Seis was an immigrant-focused banking app for Spanish-speakers based in the US. It offered checking accounts, debit cards, and credit products, all through a Spanish-language interface.

The company partnered with licensed banks like Thread Bank to provide FDIC-insured deposit accounts. Seis didn't require a Social Security Number or extensive credit history to open an account, which made it accessible to people new to the US financial system.

At its peak, Seis had over 500,000 customer accounts and earned more than 100,000 five-star reviews in the Apple App Store.²

Why is Seis Bank shutting down, and what does it mean exactly?

Seis announced the shutdown in late January 2026.²

The official reason is that **Zelle® discontinued Seis's access to its payment service, which made it impossible to run the business "sustainably."**¹

Zelle® is a peer-to-peer payment network used by millions of Americans to send money instantly between bank accounts. For many Seis customers, Zelle® was a key feature.

In his public statement, CEO Trevor McKendrick also mentioned that changing "immigration patterns" reduced demand for the product.²

Regardless of the exact combination of factors, the result is the same: Seis is closing permanently.

The shutdown happened in stages:¹

  • February 3, 2026: All credit cards stopped working, and secured credit accounts closed
  • February 27, 2026: All checking accounts, unsecured credit accounts, and cash advance accounts closed
  • April 29, 2026: The Seis app will stop showing your transaction history and account statements

February 26, 2026, was the deadline to withdraw your money from Seis and transfer it to one of the Seis Bank alternatives.

What do you need to know as a customer?

As of March 2026, all Seis accounts are already closed. Here's what you need to know depending on your situation:

If you had money in your checking account¹

If you didn't withdraw your funds before February 27, Seis is mailing you a check to your last address on file. According to the company, checks can take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive from the February 27 deadline. That means you should receive your check sometime between mid-April and late April 2026.

What to do: Make sure Seis has your current mailing address. If you moved recently or think your address might be outdated, contact Seis support through the app as soon as possible.

If you had a credit card balance¹

If you didn't pay off your Seis Silver Credit Card balance before February 27, 2026, it may have been reported as past due to credit bureaus. This can negatively affect your credit score.

What to do: Check your credit report to see if a late payment was reported. If you still owe money, you're still responsible for paying it even though Seis has shut down. Contact Seis support through the app to arrange payment if you haven't already.

If you had a secured credit card³

For secured credit cards, Seis applied your security deposit to any remaining balance you owed. If your deposit was larger than your balance, the extra money was transferred to your Seis checking account within 10 business days after your card closed in early February.

If you didn't withdraw that money before February 27, it will be included in the check Seis mails to you.

💡 Important: You're still responsible for paying any credit card balance that wasn't covered by your security deposit.

Accessing your records¹

You can still view your transaction history and download account statements in the Seis app until April 29, 2026. After that date, the app will no longer provide access to this information.

What to do: Log into the Seis app and download or screenshot anything you need for your records before April 29. This includes tax documents, proof of income, transaction history, or anything else you might need later.

FAQ

When will Seis Bank officially close?

Seis has already closed most of its services.

Credit cards were deactivated on February 3, 2026, and all checking accounts, unsecured credit accounts, and cash advance accounts closed on February 27, 2026

The company is still winding down operations through April 2026. You can access your transaction history and account statements in the Seis app until April 29, 2026. After that date, the app will no longer be available.¹

What happens to the money in my Seis account?

If you didn't withdraw your money before the February 27 deadline, Seis is mailing you a check to your last address on file. These checks take 6 to 8 weeks to arrive from February 27, which means you should receive yours between mid-April and late April 2026

If you haven't received your check by late April, or if you're worried about your mailing address being incorrect, contact Seis support through the app as soon as possible.

What should I do if I have a direct deposit set up with Seis?

Change your direct deposit information as soon as possible. Since Seis accounts closed on February 27, any payments sent to your Seis account will be rejected and returned to the sender.¹

Contact your employer or whoever sends you direct deposits and give them your new bank account information. If you don't have another bank account yet, you'll need to open one quickly to avoid missing payments.

Will this closure affect my credit score or credit history?

It depends on whether you had a Seis credit card and whether you paid off the balance before February 27, 2026

If you paid your credit card balance in full before the deadline, the account closure shouldn't hurt your credit score. However, if you didn't pay your balance before February 27, Seis may have reported it as past due to the credit bureaus, which can lower your credit score.

Even though Seis has shut down, you still owe any unpaid credit card debt.
