MTN Mobile Money international transfer guide
Your full guide to MTN MoMo transfers.
M&T Bank gives you 3 main options for sending money and making payments, including ACH, Zelle®, and wire transfers.
Before you choose an option, however, you should consider the transfer limits. Selecting a method with too low a payment cap will hinder your ability to send money where you need it to go.
In this article, we’ll outline all you need to know about the M&T Bank transfer limits for wire transfers, ACH payments, and Zelle® transactions.
We'll also introduce Wise — your international money transfer alternative. Use Wise to send stress-free transfers to over 140 countries - all at the standard mid-market exchange rate.

M&T Bank ACH transfer limits are on the low end compared to similar institutions. You can send or receive a combined 2,000 USD daily and up to 5,000 USD in any 30-day period.¹
Interestingly, M&T Bank combines inbound and outbound transfers to determine your limit instead of setting separate caps. The daily limit is reasonable, but the 30-day rolling cap is quite low.
Once you reach your 5,000 USD cap, you’ll have to turn to other transfer options. At M&T Bank, you’ll be limited to Zelle® and wire transfers. Zelle® is quick, but the limits are relatively low. While wire transfers don’t have limits, they can take a couple of business days or more.
| Need to send a large amount? With Wise, you can send up to 1,000,000 USD per wire transfer to 140+ countries — and we automatically apply a discount when you send over 25,000 USD (or equivalent)*. |

M&T Bank Zelle® limits vary.² To view your daily and 30-day limits:
- Log in to your account
- Select the question mark next to “Limits”
- View the text box, which will show your remaining limit for the current 24-hour period
M&T Bank adjusts Zelle® transfer limits periodically. You can also request an increase by contacting customer service. However, M&T Bank isn’t clear on what its criteria are for adjusting send limits. Generally, maintaining a higher revolving balance will help.
On the plus side, Zelle® transfers are completed in minutes. You can send and receive cash fast, provided you don’t cap out.
M&T Bank international wire transfers aren’t subject to any limits. As such, they’re one of the most practical options for sending money abroad. However, wire transfers take several business days to process.
When you need to send money overseas using your M&T Bank account, you can set up your international wire with the following information:
- the recipient’s name
- the recipient’s bank
- the SWIFT code of the recipient’s bank
- the recipient’s bank account number
You may also need to provide the recipient’s address.
You can initiate a transfer in your local M&T Bank branch. Transfers can’t be initiated online or over the phone.
M&T Bank only offers wire transfers to commercial banking customers. If you have a personal account, you won’t be able to send a wire with M&T Bank.

When setting up an ACH transaction, you can see your remaining 30-day transfer limit. The monthly limit is 5,000 USD.
There are no limits for wire transfers, which means you can send or receive any amount. However, wires over 10,000 USD are subject to IRS reporting requirements.
There are no limit increase options for personal ACH transfers — you’ll be capped at 2,000 USD daily and up to 5,000 USD per month.
You might inquire about a business account if you want to increase your ACH transfer limit threshold. Limits vary based on factors such as account activity and revolving account balances.
If you’d like to increase your Zelle® transfer limit, you can contact M&T Bank to request an increase.
M&T Bank periodically reviews Zelle® transfer caps. If you’re consistently keeping a higher account balance, the institution may adjust your limit without you reaching out to customer support.
M&T Bank doesn’t charge for ACH or Zelle® transfers, which are free services. However, it does charge for incoming and outgoing wires³:
| Transfer type | Fee |
|---|---|
| Incoming wire transfer | 16 USD |
| Outgoing wire transfer - domestic | 32 USD |
| Outgoing wire transfer - international | 75 USD |
Making an international wire transfer is a tried-and-true option for sending large amounts of cash with M&T Bank. However, sending money with a traditional institution can be costly.
You may encounter a marked-up mid-market exchange rate and additional fees from other institutions involved in the transfer. With that in mind, you should always explore multiple alternatives, especially if you need to send a large sum overseas.
With Wise, you can send secure and trackable large amount transfers to 140+ countries worldwide with transparent fees and the fair mid-market exchange rate.
