I may be the victim of a scam involving a Wise account

If you have a Wise account: Please check our guide on how to report through the app or web. Reporting directly through your account is the fastest way for us to help you.

If you are not a Wise customer, but you sent money to a Wise account and suspect it was a scam, you need to take action quickly.

Step 1: Contact your bank immediately

Your first step is to contact your own bank or financial institution to report the fraud.

This is essential because we cannot return money based on your email alone. We need an official report or fraud recall request from your bank to be able to send any funds back to you.

Acting quickly gives you the best chance of recovery, as your bank has specific procedures for recalling funds sent in error or due to fraud.

Step 2: Report the scam to Wise

After you have spoken to your bank, please send a detailed report to our investigation team. This allows us to investigate the activity of the reported account and prevent further harm.

What to include in your email

To help us investigate quickly, please include:

  • The name of the Wise user: The full name on the account you sent money to.

  • Account details: The account number, IBAN, or email address you used to send the money.

  • Date and amount: The exact date and amount of the transfer.

  • Proof of payment: A screenshot of your bank transfer confirmation or bank statement showing the transaction.

  • Other relevant information: A detailed description of the scam, including any communications (emails, chat logs, social media profiles) that led to the transaction, and the service or item you believed you were paying for.

What happens next?

Our team will look into the reported account immediately and take the necessary steps in line with our policies and legal requirements.

To help with your recovery, please keep in mind that we aren’t able to return funds based on an email report alone. The best way to get your money back is to contact your bank or financial institution and ask them to send us an official fraud recall request.
