Before you start: Personal vs. Business accounts

It's important to use the correct account for your payments. PayPal payments for goods, services, or freelancing are considered business payments.

You must use a Wise Business account to receive business payments. For personal payments, like from friends and family, you should use your Wise Personal account.

What currencies can I send between PayPal and Wise?

You can manage a number of currencies on your PayPal account, but the available transfer options depend on where you live. In general, you can send money from PayPal to Wise, if your local currency is supported by PayPal and Wise offers local account details for that currency.

In some countries you can select USD as an alternative currency and link your Wise USD details to PayPal. For transfers made in USD, PayPal may charge extra fees.

On your PayPal, you need to select the option to link your bank account. This usually leads to a list of local banks you can choose from. For now, Wise won’t be appearing on this list, but it doesn’t mean you can’t link your Wise account. In most currencies, you can manually add bank details.

When you type in your account details, you’ll see either 'Wise', or our banking partner’s name appear. For some currencies, PayPal asks you to verify your account with microdeposits or via Direct Debit.

Some customers report having trouble linking their Wise USD account details. This can happen if a platform doesn't easily recognise multi-currency account details.

If you see an error, the simplest alternative is to use your Wise card.

Can I use my Wise card instead?

Yes, in most countries, a simpler option is to link your Wise card to your PayPal account. You can use it to top-up your balance or to receive money.

These transactions are usually instant, but keep in mind that PayPal may charge you additional fees for sending money to your Wise card details.
