What is the GCash Scan to Pay In-store QR?

The Scan to Pay In-store QR feature enables your business to accept payments by having customers simply scan your merchant QR code². It was specifically designed so that your customers can use their GCash e-wallet to pay for goods or services in-store, providing a smooth and modern checkout process, improving the overall in-store customer experience.

Why should businesses take advantage of the Scan to Pay feature?

There are several ways a business owner can benefit from the Scan to Pay feature, such as:

  • Fast and fuss-free payments benefit both businesses and consumers: Payments are made directly from the customer’s GCash e-wallet to your registered merchant account, allowing your business to accept digital payments quickly and securely.
  • Secure and professional transactions: Each merchant is issued a unique QR code, so you never have to share your personal mobile number. This ensures every transaction remains secure and clearly tied to your business.
  • Automatic settlement to your bank: Funds received through your merchant QR code are automatically transferred to your nominated bank account, saving you time on manual reconciliation.
  • Supports GCredit and GGives payments: Customers can also choose to pay using GCredit or GGives, enabling more flexible payment options and increasing your potential sales.

GCash QR code application review and timeline⁴

Once you’ve submitted all required documents, GCash typically reviews your merchant application within one business day. After approval, your merchant wallet is created, followed by the preparation of your QR kit, which includes your unique QR code and in-store display materials such as a QR standee, door hanger, and more.

The entire process generally takes 7 to 14 business days, depending on your location. Merchants within Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR) can expect delivery within 7 to 11 business days, while those in provincial areas may receive their kits within 7 to 14 business days. Once delivered, you can use the in-store display materials to start accepting Scan to Pay transactions immediately.

While GCash is convenient, it is limited to local transactions as it currently supports Philippine Peso (PHP) payments only. If your business needs to receive foreign currency payments from customers, you’ll need a multi-currency account like Wise Business. On top of allowing you to hold, send, and receive payments in over 40 currencies, Wise’s Quick Pay QR code also enables customers to pay you cashlessly, quickly, and easily from across the globe.

💡If you're a business in the Philippines trying to go global, you've probably hit a wall of confusing foreign exchange fees when collecting payments from international customers. Wise Business helps you cut through all that complexity—be it a local bank transfer or a wire transfer. By simplifying how you receive payments, you're free to pursue what matters—growing a local brand with global sights.
  • Obtain account details to receive payments in USD, EUR, GBP, SGD, HKD and more for a one-time fee of 1,400 PHP.
  • Simply share your account details with customers or add them to invoices.
  • Zero fees when you get paid via ACH, FAST, InstaPay/PESONet, & other local transfers.
  • Full fee transparency when clients pay you via Wire / SWIFT.
  • Hold, send, and convert money at the mid-market rate in one account.
  • Accept payments from customers and payment service providers (PSPs) like Stripe and Amazon.

How to improve your in-store QR payment experience

With your GCash QR kit in hand, making the most of it is all about creating a smooth, convenient experience for your customers in-store. You should consider the following.

How can customers pay with the QR code?

Place your in-store QR code display materials in strategic areas around your store to enable your customers to make payments smoothly. Most stores display their GCash QR codes at the cashier or areas where customers are likely to make their payments, such as self-checkout points.

Customers can simply open their GCash app, tap Scan QR, and scan your unique merchant QR code to complete the payment.

Alternatively, if your shop uses a scanner, the customer can show their own GCash QR code for you to scan at the counter. Either way, the payment is processed instantly, and funds are transferred safely to your merchant account.

By using GCash, businesses enjoy an easier, faster, and safer payment method while reducing the risks and time involved in handling bulk cash, offering customers a seamless digital checkout experience.

Receiving payment confirmations and funds

Your GCash QR kit comes with a dedicated phone that receives SMS notifications each time a payment is made, so you can confirm transactions instantly without needing an internet connection.

Every successful payment is credited to your merchant wallet in real time, ensuring that you always have an up-to-date record of sales. The funds are then automatically transferred to your nominated bank account on the next banking day, saving you the hassle of manual withdrawals or reconciliation.

For added transparency, transaction reports are emailed within 24 hours, allowing you to review payments, verify settlements, and keep your records accurate at all times.

Managing issues with the QR keycard and payments

Even with a reliable system like GCash, occasional issues may arise with your QR keycard or device. Here’s what to do if you encounter problems and need a replacement.

Requesting a replacement QR kit

If your QR keycard or the notification phone/SIM card is lost or damaged, you can request a replacement⁴. Simply email GCash's merchant support with the following details:

  • Merchant name (as written on the keycard)
  • Branch name or location
  • Your name and designation or role
  • Your email and contact number
  • Reason for replacement

Once your request is verified, delivery of the replacement QR keycard or phone will take approximately 7 to 11 business days. GCash aims to resolve most QR keycard-related issues within one week, ensuring minimal disruption to your business operations.

Integrating local QR with global finance

GCash has been empowering merchants across the Philippines to accept digital payments with ease, helping them keep up with the country’s fast-growing cashless economy. Having a GCash In-store QR provides a seamless, secure, and convenient payment experience for businesses and their customers. With an easy setup process, clear application steps, and a convenient QR kit created and delivered to your store, merchants can start accepting payments via a GCash QR code in just a few days.

By adopting the GCash QR payment solution, businesses can tap into a vast, active, and growing user base of Filipinos, improving customer satisfaction while simplifying day-to-day operations.

That said, for companies that also handle international transactions, work with overseas clients, or serve tourists in stores, GCash may be restrictive as it can only accept PHP currently. Having a multi-currency account like Wise Business complements your payments setup by allowing you to accept payments in other currencies from your customers overseas without having to always convert to PHP for all transactions received.

If and when you do need to convert currencies, there's only a small, transparent conversion fee of 0.57%, and you'll always get the mid-market rate.
