Hong Kong is a dynamic city which offers lots of opportunities for tourists and for people seeking overseas employment - but if you’re thinking of heading there either for a short visit or to work, you’ll need to check out the requirements to travel to Hong Kong from the Philippines in 2025.

Travel requirements to Hong Kong from Philippines

The good news is that there are no special covid-related Hong Kong travel requirements in 2025. This means that subject to meeting all other Hong Kong travel requirements you can go to Hong Kong as a tourist or to work without needing to prove vaccination status, test negative for covid, or go through quarantine¹.

If you’re heading to Hong Kong for a short visit as a tourist you may not need a visa to enter the country² - but you will still have to complete the departure form for the Philippine government before you leave³. We’ll look at the visa rules based on your plans in Hong Kong in a moment.

Bear in mind that travel rules and restrictions do change pretty frequently, so you are advised to check the live regulations before you travel, to ensure nothing else is needed.

Hong Kong travel restrictions for Filipinos

These days travel to Hong Kong from the Philippines should be fairly straightforward. The main thing you need to consider ahead of time, is completing the Philippine government departure form before departing the Philippines to go to Hong Kong. Aside from this, if you’re off to Hong Kong for under 2 weeks and plan on sightseeing and touring, you don’t need any further visa prior to leaving.

What documents are needed to travel to Hong Kong from Philippines

So - do I need a visa to go to Hong Kong from the Philippines - and if not, what documents do I need to travel to Hong Kong from the Philippines?

If you’re only in Hong Kong for a short while for tourism you won’t usually need a visa - but you may still be asked for some other documents. One of the conditions of visa free travel is that you can prove to the border control officers that you have enough money to pay for yourself, and that you plan to leave after your visit.

If asked, you should be able to provide the border guards with your onward travel tickets which should fall within the visa free window. You may also need to show what you plan to do in Hong Kong - an itinerary and hotel booking for example - and show you can cover your costs comfortably. Exactly what’s needed will depend on the decision of the border guard, but having your information and documents to hand is useful, just in case.

Do Filipinos need a visa to go to Hong Kong?

If you have a passport from the Philippines you can enter Hong Kong visa free for up to 14 days. If you plan to work, study, or stay longer than that, you’ll need an appropriate visa which must be arranged before you travel.

Visas are arranged based on the purpose of your visit to Hong Kong. There are transit visas and long term tourist visas, study and employment visas, and specific visa categories for business owners, investors and overseas workers for example. Some visa categories are offered for direct application, but for others you need an agent, employer or local sponsor to support your application in the first place.

Flying from Philippines to Hong Kong

You can fly from various different cities in the Philippines to Hong Kong, with some direct options and other flights which connect, often in Manila.

If you’re flying direct, the Philippines to Hong Kong travel time from Manila is just under 2.5 hours. Aside from Ninoy Aquino International Airport, you can also often find direct flights from the Philippines to Hong Kong departing from Mactan–Cebu International Airport, and Clark International Airport.

There’s no Hong Kong to Philippines time difference, so as well as being only a short journey by plane, Hong Kong is a great destination with no jet lag and no time lost due to time zone changes. Arriving in Hong Kong, the airport is pretty well connected to most places in the city, with MTR trains every ten minutes or so. There are also plenty of taxis and private hire cars available, so once you’ve landed you can be on your way in no time at all.

The Philippines to Hong Kong ticket price for flights will depend a lot on when you want to travel, the specific airport you want to fly from in the Philippines and the carrier you choose.

There are plenty of options - which means you can shop around to find the flight which suits your needs and budget most closely. You can usually find direct flight options from Cebu Pacific Air, Cathay Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airways. Or if you’re going to be connecting or travelling from a regional airport in the Philippines you may decide to use Scoot, AirAsia or another lower cost option.

At the time of writing, single journeys from the Philippines to Hong Kong could be as cheap as 3,200 PHP. The exact prices depend on the route - here are a few examples which are live at the time of research:

  • Angeles to Hong Kong - from around 3,900 PHP
