If you’re moving to, from, or within Japan, you’ll need to update the address on your Wise account. Here’s how to do it.
The process is different depending on your situation. Choose the section below that applies to you.
I'm moving from another country to Japan
This is a two-step process: first you update your address, and then you’ll need to verify it.
Step 1: Update your address and occupation
Click on your name/profile icon in the top right corner
Go to Personal details
Select Personal information
Scroll down and enter your new address
Select Save
If you can’t edit your address because the fields are greyed out, get in touch with us.
You’ll also need to add your occupation. You can choose from this list:
Company executive
Company employee
Government worker
Self employed
Stay at home partner
Not employed
Retired
Student
Step 2: Verify your new address
Because of Japanese regulations, we need to verify your new address. After you’ve updated it, you’ll be asked to complete an online identity verification.

I'm moving to a new address within Japan
If you're moving to a new address within Japan, you'll need to provide a document to verify it.
1. Get your document ready
Please have one of the following documents ready:
A Japanese ID showing your new address
A government-issued document (less than 6 months old) showing your full name, date of birth, and new address
Accepted government-issued documents include:
Juminhyo 住民票 (Residence Certificate)
Certificate of registered information in the Juminhyo (住民票の記載事項証明書)
Seal registration certificate (印鑑登録証明書)
Make sure your My Number (個人番号) and ‘domicile of origin’ (本籍) are covered if listed on the document.
2. Send it to us
Once you have your document, contact us to send over a picture of it. We'll also need you to confirm:
Your new Japanese address, including the postal code
Your occupation
Our team will then update and verify your address for you.
I'm moving from Japan to another country
If you're moving out of Japan, you’ll need a valid proof of address from your new country.
