What are microdeposits?

What are microdeposits?

Microdeposits are small test payments (usually $0.01) that Wise sends to your bank account. You enter a code from the transaction description in Wise to verify that you own the account.

Why microdeposits instead of instant verification?

Microdeposits act as manual verification. You may see microdeposit verification if:

  • Your bank doesn’t support instant verification

  • Instant verification is temporarily unavailable

  • You chose to verify manually

Microdeposits are a secure fallback option when instant verification isn’t possible.

How long do the microdeposits take to arrive?

Most customers receive both deposits within 1–2 business days. Weekends and bank holidays may delay them.

Where do I find the deposits and the code?

Look for a small incoming payment from Wise on your bank statement. Depending on your bank, they may appear as:

  • A line labelled #ABC Wise ACCTVERIFY

  • The code is the first three letters after the # symbol, ABC in the example above

If you have business banking, you may need to check your detailed account ledger.

What do I do after I receive them?

  1. From your Wise profile, go to Settings → Payment Methods → Connected Accounts

  2. Find the bank account pending verification

  3. Select Enter Code

  4. Enter the code from the $0.01 deposit

  5. Your account should verify immediately

The microdeposit didn’t arrive

If you haven’t received the microdeposit after 3 business days:

  1. Make sure the account is active and accepts ACH credit transfers

  2. Check your full statement — some banks don’t show small transactions in the default view

  3. Confirm that your routing and account numbers were entered correctly when you first set up the connection

  4. Try the verification again in Wise

If they still don’t appear after retrying, you can:

  • Try instant verification, or

  • Use another payment method, like wire transfer or debit card

I entered the wrong amounts

If you enter the wrong values several times, the verification may fail.

You can:

  • Restart the microdeposit process, or

  • Try instant verification, which is faster, or

  • Use another payment method

For security reasons, Wise can’t manually verify the deposits on your behalf.

Can I speed up microdeposit verification?

No. Banks control how quickly deposits appear. If you want to verify faster, choose instant verification if it’s available for your bank.

Can I make a payment before verification is complete?

No. You need to verify the account before using it for ACH payments.

If you need to pay sooner:

  • Try instant verification

  • Use a debit card

  • Use a bank wire transfer

My bank account was previously verified with microdeposits. Do I need to do it again?

If your bank account is still active and hasn’t been changed, you usually won’t need to repeat verification.

But Wise may occasionally ask you to verify again if:

  • The account looks inactive

  • There are security concerns

  • You recently changed account details

Are there limits when using a microdeposit-verified account?

Yes, some limits may apply for security reasons — for example, transfer limits or initial hold times. You’ll see any limits clearly in the app before sending your payment.

Instant verification usually allows higher or faster limits.

I still need help. What should I do?

If you can’t verify your bank account after trying the steps above, contact Wise Support and include:

  • The bank you’re trying to connect

  • Whether you tried instant verification

  • Whether any deposits appeared on your statement

  • Any screenshots of error messages you're seeing

This helps us troubleshoot more quickly.
