How Young Explorer works

Young Explorer is a card for 6-17-year-olds, managed by parents. It's currently available for Wise account holders living in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, and the UK.

Your child will get a card which they can use to spend directly from money you set aside for them in your account.

They won’t have their own account details and it won’t be possible for them to top up their card, so any money will need to be added by you for now.

If you’re a parent setting up Young Explorer

Here’s how it works:

1. Order a card

They can use their card globally — in store, online and at ATMs. If they’re 13 or over, they can add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay, too.

2. Add money

Top up their card instantly, in the currency they need.

3. Set limits

Choose how much they can spend in a day and over a month. Their spending will count towards your overall account limits. Learn more about overall monthly spending limits, depending where you live.

4. Monitor their spending

Keep an eye on their card usage, with all transactions available to view through your app.

5. Let them spend globally

They’ll get the same benefits as you when using their Wise card overseas — no exchange rate markups or high transaction fees.

If you’re in the UK or Switzerland

1. Give your child access to their own app

They’ll then have their own child-friendly view of the Wise app. They can see what they have to spend and gain confidence in managing their money independently. Learn more about app access.

2. Add another adult

They can top up when you’re busy, keep an eye on your child’s spending, and generally share the load. Learn more about adding another adult.

If you’re in any other country

Right now, Young Explorer is still a beta — which means it won’t have all the features you might expect yet, but we’re working on it.

If you order a Young Explorer card, you’ll be the first to know when new features are available. You’ll also have a chance to tell us what you’d like us to work on next.

If you’re an adult that’s been added to a Young Explorer Account

You can add money for your child and see their transactions. You can’t remove money from the account or manage its members.

To remove a Young Explorer card or close the account

The parent who set up the account can close it — this will also cancel the card. From your Young Explorer account screen, select the 3 dots icon in the top right corner, then ‘Close group’.

How much does the Young Explorer card cost?

Young Explorer comes with no monthly subscription — you’ll just pay a 10 AUD, 14 NZD, 8.50 SGD, 8 CHF or 7 GBP one-off fee for the physical card. There's no fee to order it if you live in Brazil.

When your child spends on their card, they’ll get the same benefits as you.

How many Young Explorer cards can I have?

You can order up to 5 Young Explorer cards for 6-17 year olds.

They must be for different children (you can’t have multiple cards for the same child), and you’ll need to be their parent or legal guardian.
