How do I cancel my transfer?

You can often cancel a transfer yourself — it just depends on the transfer's status. First, go to Home to find the transfer in your activity list. Then, match its status to the sections below to see what you can do.

What if I've set up my transfer but haven't paid yet?

You can easily cancel the transfer yourself at this step.

  • On the website: Go to the transfer and click Cancel transfer.

  • On the app: Go to the transfer and tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner, then tap Cancel transfer.

You'll get an email confirming your transfer has been cancelled.

What if I've paid, but the transfer status hasn't updated?

This often happens when you pay by a slower method, like a bank transfer or Open Banking. Your transfer might still show as waiting for payment, even though you've sent the money from your bank.

At this stage, you can still select Cancel transfer. If you cancel now, we’ll have to wait for your money to arrive at Wise before we can start the refund process.

What if my transfer is being processed?

If you paid from your Wise balance or by card, this is often the first status you'll see after paying. At this point, your money is with us for checks and conversion. The Cancel transfer button is no longer visible because it's too late to cancel it yourself.

We might still be able to cancel it for you, but we can't guarantee it. Because our team works fast to convert and send your money, there's a very small window to catch it. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to try and cancel at this stage.

What if my transfer is complete?

You can't cancel a transfer once it's been marked as complete. The money is already in the recipient's banking system and we have no way to bring it back.

What if the recipient's details are wrong?

If you think you made a mistake with the recipient's bank details, the money will most likely be rejected by their bank and sent back to us. If this happens, we’ll email you and you can either update the details or cancel the transfer for a full refund.

If the transfer has been sent to the wrong account, you’ll need to contact the recipient directly and ask them to return the money.

How long will my refund take?

Refund timelines depend on how you paid for your transfer. You can find detailed timelines for each payment method in our guide to how long refunds take.
