Sending EUR to countries outside of Europe

This information is for when you’re sending money from any currency outside of the SEPA region and want your recipient to receive euros. For example, if you're sending a transfer to someone in Turkey and they receive euros, not Turkish lira. In this case, the transfer would go through the Swift network.

What’s a Swift transfer?

Typically, when you send money with Wise, we use our own infrastructure, which keeps things fast, simple, and free of unexpected fees.

However, for some specific transfers — like transferring any currency to euros to a bank account located outside of the SEPA region — we have to use the Swift international banking network.

As Swift transfers often pass through multiple banks to reach your recipient, they can take longer to arrive and may come with unexpected fees from those banks (usually between 10-25 EUR).

It's a bit like when you travel abroad. It’s not always possible to take a direct flight, so you may need to take several connecting flights, and pay each airline as you go.

Once you set up your Swift transfer, you can use our in-app tracker to follow it every step of the way, from the moment the money leaves your account to the moment it arrives to your recipient.

How much does it cost to send euros outside the SEPA region?

To see the exact fees and the estimated time for your transfer to arrive, set it up on the Wise website or app. We will always show you the total fee and the predicted arrival time before you press send.

Wise fees for sending euros outside the SEPA region via Swift

Swift fee per transfer*
Shared fees scenario: You and the recipient will share the fees. The Wise fee for the Swift transfer will be paid by you, and the recipient will pay any fees charged by other banks involved in the transfer (like the recipient’s bank). This means the recipient might get slightly less than what you sent. We’ll use this option when these extra fees are unlikely or unpredictable.5.21 EUR
Fixed fee scenario: You pay a single fixed fee that covers all costs including fees from other banks. This guarantees that your recipient will get the exact amount you send. We use this option when we know other banks will charge extra fees.25.22 EUR

*This doesn’t include conversion fees, or any additional charges depending on the method you chose to pay for the transfer (for example card fees if you’re paying by card). We’ll always show the total fees for what you’re sending at the time you set up a transfer. Learn more.

Sending euros to a personal PrivatBank account in Ukraine

We have a partnership agreement with PrivatBank which makes sending money to their account holders in Ukraine cheaper and faster. This means if your recipient has an account with PrivatBank, they’ll get the money quicker and you won’t have to worry about any unexpected fees from correspondent banks.

The fee in this case* is a combination of a 1.31 EUR fixed fee and a 2.0% of the amount you’re sending. This applies to both personal and business accounts at PrivatBank.

*Excluding conversion fees or additional charges dependent on the payment method, as mentioned above.

How to avoid unnecessary bank fees on your next Swift transfer?

To ensure your recipient receives the amount you intend to send without paying additional bank fees, confirm that their bank account is in the same currency you are sending. If it's not, their bank may automatically convert the money, often using a poor exchange rate and charging high fees.

To avoid Swift fees altogether, check whether your recipient already uses Wise or ask them to sign-up. Sending money to another Wise account is not only cheaper, but often instant.
