How to take a selfie with your ID for verification

To keep you and your money safe, we sometimes need to confirm it’s really you. One way we do this is by asking for a photo of you holding your ID — this is known as a ‘selfie with ID’.

We’ll guide you through the process, but here are some tips to help you get it right on the first try.

  • Find the best light. Face a window to use natural daylight and turn off any overhead lights that might cause glare. Avoid having a strong light source behind you.

  • Show your whole face. Look straight at the camera and make sure nothing is covering your face. It's best to remove hats or sunglasses.

  • Hold your ID correctly. Hold the document next to your face. Make sure your fingers aren't covering any information or the edges of the ID.

    • We might also ask you to hold a piece of paper with a specific code or the current date written on it. Please make sure this is also clearly readable in the photo.

  • Check for clarity. Before you submit, check that every single word on your ID is sharp and readable. All four corners of the document should be visible in the frame. If your photo isn't of high enough quality (sufficiently sharp and not blurry), we'll request a better copy.

What if I’m having trouble?

Id your photo keeps getting rejected, this is almost always due to photo quality. The most common issues are glare on the ID, blurry text, or a finger covering information. Please double-check the tips above and try again in a different spot.

We understand this can be tricky. If you're struggling because of a physical disability or you're having technical issues, please get in touch with our Support team. We're here to help.
