If your transfer is cancelled, or the recipient's bank sends the money back to us, we'll automatically refund it to the account or card you paid with.
For information on timelines, please see how long refunds take.
How we refund you depends on the payment method you used for your transfer.
If I paid by debit or credit card
We'll send the refund directly to the card you paid with.
What if my card is expired, cancelled, or I paid with a mobile wallet (like Apple or Google Pay)?
It doesn't matter if your card has expired or been cancelled. As long as the bank account linked to that card is still open, the refund will arrive there safely.
This works the same for mobile wallets — the refund automatically goes back to the card linked to your Apple Pay or Google Pay.
If I paid by bank transfer (like ACH, Wire, or Swift)
We’ll refund the money directly to the bank account you paid from. See how long the refund might take.
What if the bank account I paid from is now closed?
If the bank account you paid from is now closed, the refund will most likely bounce back to us from your old bank. When this happens, we'll email you so you can add the details of a different bank account for the refund.
If I paid from my Wise currencies
We’ll refund the money back to the Wise currency you paid from.
What if Wise asks me for refund details?
For some currencies, we can't see the details of the bank account you paid from. We might also ask for your details if you accidentally sent too much money.
In these cases, we'll need to ask for your bank details to process the refund. This is a security measure to make sure we're sending the money back to the right person.
If this happens, we'll email you. To add your refund details:
Go to Activity on your account and select the transfer
Look for a task called Fix your transfer and select it
Enter the details for the same bank account you originally paid from. Providing details for a different account will cause the refund to fail.
Once you've entered your details, you'll get a confirmation email from us.
Tip: If you’ve paid from a bank account in Brazil, refunds work slightly differently. Learn more about refunds to Brazilian bank accounts.
