Paying with online bill pay

You can send Canadian dollars (CAD) with Wise using online bill pay (also known as an Online Bill Transfer, or OBT). It is a cheap and convenient way to fund your transfers.

It usually takes 1–3 working days for your money to reach Wise.

Can I use online bill pay with my bank?

Wise is a verified bill payee with many major Canadian banks and credit unions.

Supported Banks and Credit Unions

  • Bank of Montreal (BMO)

  • National Bank of Canada (NBC)

  • EQ Bank

  • CS Alterna Bank

  • Manulife Bank of Canada

  • First Calgary Financial

  • Central 1 Credit Union and its members*

*Good to know: Many banks are members of Central 1 Credit Union. If you can add Wise as a bill payee but your bank isn't on this list, it may be a member of Central 1.

Note that not all banks have us listed — unfortunately, we can't control this. If that's the case for your bank, please reach out to them directly and request to add us to their list of bill payees.

How to pay with online bill pay

First, set up your transfer on Wise. Choose Bill payment when we ask how you'd like to pay. Once that's done, follow these steps to send the money from your bank:

  1. Log in to your online bank account.

  2. Go to the Bill payments section (usually found under transfers).

  3. Select Make a payment, then Add a payee.

  4. Enter these details for Wise:

    • Payee province: ON (Ontario)

    • Payee name: Wise or TransferWise (some banks haven't updated our name yet).

    • Account number: Your Wise membership number. This starts with a P and should have no spaces or dashes.

  5. Select Verify Payee and complete the payment.

Sending from Central 1 Credit Union

If you use Central 1 Credit Union or one of its member banks, set your transfer up as a wire on Wise first. Then, choose Wise as a bill payee in your online banking to send the money. This ensures our system can receive it correctly.

Once you've added Wise as a payee, you can save these details to make your future transfers even faster.
