Paying by bank transfer is usually the cheapest way to fund your transfer with Wise. You first set up the request in your Wise account, then send the money to us through your own bank.
1. Set up your transfer on Wise
Choose how much you’re sending and enter your recipient’s bank details. You can find the exact steps here.

2. Choose bank transfer at the payment step
When you get to the payment step, select Bank transfer. We'll show you Wise’s account details and a unique reference number (usually starting with a 'P').
Make a note of these details — you’ll need them to make the payment from your bank account.

3. Pay Wise through your bank
Exit your Wise account and pay by bank transfer directly through your bank. You can do this:
Through your online banking
Over the phone
In person at a bank branch
At an ATM with a cash card (for JPY only)

Paying by ATM in Japan
If you're paying at an ATM in Japan, you might see our name displayed with the word 'Bank'. For example:
'Wise Payments Japan Bank (ワイズ・ペイメンツ・ジャパン銀行)'
‘Wise Paymen Bank (ワイズ・ペイメン銀行)’
Don't worry, this is a known technical error with some ATMs. Even though we are a licensed Funds Transfer Service Provider and not a bank, you can still safely send your funds to us through these ATMs.
Important things to check:
The name must match: The name on your bank account must match the name on your Wise account. We can't accept money from someone else's account, even if you have power of attorney.
Use your reference: This helps us identify your deposit and link it to your transfer.
Send the exact amount: Sending more or less could delay your transfer.
If you’re in the UK
If you're sending an amount under your bank's limit, you might see an option called Log in and approve. This is a faster way to pay where you just log into your bank and confirm the payment without manually typing our details.
4. Wait for confirmation
We’ll send you an email as soon as your money arrives in our account. Most bank transfers reach us within 2 working days. Once we get it, we'll convert it and pay it out to your recipient.
