A guaranteed rate is an exchange rate that Wise locks for a specific period of time. We offer this for most transfers to protect you from market fluctuations.
If currency markets are especially volatile, we might not be able to offer a guarantee. You can still send money using our live rate transfers.
If your guaranteed rate feature has been removed, read more about why here.
How does it work?
When you set up your transfer, we'll show you exactly how long your rate is locked. This duration ranges from 2–48 hours depending on the currency you're sending.
To keep your locked rate, we must receive the full amount for your transfer before the deadline.
Payment Speed: Send your money as soon as possible. Some banks have limits on how much you can send online, which can cause delays.
Setup Time: If you spend more than 30 minutes on any step during setup, the rate will refresh.
Weekends and Holidays: We usually don't count weekends or holidays when calculating your deadline. If you set up a transfer on a Friday at 5:00 pm with a 48-hour lock, it will be guaranteed until Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Holidays and weekends are based on source currency. You will see the exact deadline when setting up your transfer.
Your Time Zone: The deadline displayed during transfer setup is automatically shown in your local time zone (based on your device settings).
What if I miss the deadline?
If your money reaches us after the guarantee expires, we’ll use the live mid-market rate at the time we receive your funds.
Example: If your rate expires at 2:00 pm but your money arrives at 4:00 pm, we will use the live mid-market rate active at 4:00 pm to complete your transfer.
Common questions
What happens if I send a partial payment?
We cannot guarantee the rate if we only receive part of your money. You must adjust your transfer amount or send the remaining funds before the original deadline to keep your locked rate.
Why was my transfer cancelled automatically?
To protect your money, we set an internal rate limit of 5%. If the mid-market rate drops by 5% or more before we receive your funds, we will automatically cancel and refund your transfer.
What rate do I get on the weekend?
The currency market closes on Friday at 5:00 pm New York time and reopens on Monday at 9:00 am Auckland time. If you set up a transfer during this time, you will get the last available rate from Friday.

How do I set a rate alert?
If you're waiting for a specific rate, you can set an alert. We'll send you an email or push notification when the market hits your target. You can also set up daily updates for you chosen rate.
Go to your profile at the top of the screen.
Select Notifications.
Choose Exchange rate alerts to edit your preferences.
Can Wise convert my money automatically?
Yes. You can use Auto Conversions to pick a desired exchange rate and a specific amount to convert between two eligible currencies. We’ll watch the market and convert your money automatically when your desired rate, or an even better one, is met.

Important limits
How many transfers can I set up?
You should only set up a transfer if you intend to complete it. Wise is not a currency trading platform, and creating multiple transfers to shop for rates can lead to account restrictions as per our customer agreement.
If you have multiple active transfers but only pay for one, we will assign your money to the oldest transfer you created. To avoid this, cancel any transfers you don't need before sending your money.
