How to pay by card

For most currencies, you can pay for your transfer using your debit or credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and some Maestro cards.

What are the requirements for my card?

To be accepted, your card must have these standards:

  • 16-digit card number

  • Valid expiry date

  • 3D security enabled

  • CVC/CVV security code.

We don't accept American Express (AMEX) or Discover cards.

How do I pay for my transfer?

  1. Set up your transfer as you normally would.

  2. At the final step, we’ll show you your available payment methods. Choose Debit card or Credit card.

  3. Enter your card details or select a saved card.

  4. Review the final fee and select Pay.

Are there any restrictions?

We cannot accept card payments if:

  • The card is not in your name or your business's name.

  • You’re trying to pay for a business transfer from a personal debit/credit card.

  • It is a Wise card — send money from your Wise account instead

  • Cards issued in the following regions are currently blocked: Afghanistan, Argentina, Burundi, Belarus, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, China, Congo, Cuba, Eritrea, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Myanmar, Lebanon, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Palestinian Territory, Russia, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Chad, Venezuela and Yemen

  • For Wise Business transfers: You must pay using your business card. You cannot pay for business transfers from a personal card or bank account.

Problems paying by card?

Due to regulatory requirements or processing restrictions, some cards cannot be used for international payments. If your payment doesn't go through, we recommend trying a different card or choosing a different payment method.

If you're seeing a specific error message or having trouble with your card, check our troubleshooting guide for card payments.

How much does it cost?

Paying with a credit or business card is more expensive because it costs Wise more to process those transactions.

International card fees: You’ll be charged a higher fee if you use a card issued in a different country from the currency you’re paying in. For example, paying in EUR with a card issued in Canada.

  • EEA Exception: If you pay with an EEA-issued card in an EEA currency, you won't be charged international card fees.

How do I cancel my payment and get a refund?

You can only cancel uncompleted transactions.

  1. Go to the Activity section of your account.

  2. Find the transfer and select Cancel transfer.

Once cancelled, refunds are usually back in your account in 2–5 working days, though they can take up to 10 working days to process. If you haven't received your refund after 10 days, follow these steps.
