What is the TUI travel card?

The TUI travel card, officially called the TUI Travel Money Mastercard, is a prepaid card that you can load with 12 currencies. This includes:

  • Euro
  • US dollar
  • Australian dollar
  • New Zealand dollar
  • Canadian dollar
  • Turkish lira
  • South African rand
  • Thai baht
  • Mexican peso
  • Bulgarian lev
  • UAE dirham
  • Pound sterling¹

The card can be used at over 36 million locations across the world, wherever Mastercard is accepted. You can also use it to withdraw cash at over 2.1 million ATMs.¹

The card can be reloaded in-store, online or via the TUI Travel Money Card app. The app also makes it easy for you to track your spending, switch currencies or block the card if needed.¹

Since this is a travel money card, it’s not linked to your bank account, making it a safer option for spending abroad. Another security feature is chip and PIN protection, while it’s not yet possible to link it to your mobile wallet.¹

The TUI travel is available to UK residents aged 18 and over.¹

The TUI travel card offers a range of benefits. Here are some of the highlights:

  • 12 supported currencies

TUI travel card limits and fees

The TUI travel card has no monthly or issuance fees, but a few services do require payment.²

A 3% foreign transaction fee is applied when you spend in an unsupported currency. Withdrawing cash at an ATM costs £1.5 or the rough equivalent in each of the supported currencies. For example, the fee is $2 in US dollars or €1.75 in euros.²

There’s also a 2% loading fee for pounds sterling, while other currencies are free. You can get a replacement card for free, but cancelling your card via customer services will cost £10.²

If there’s no activity on any currency for 24 months, a £2 monthly inactivity fee may apply. It will be taken from the currency with the highest balance. If that isn’t enough, funds from other currencies will be used.²

Cards apply to both the amount and where you can spend. The card can’t be used in the UK for purchases or cash withdrawals, but it can be used in the 11 countries whose currencies are available on the card.²

The minimum ATM withdrawal is £10, with a daily maximum of £500. You can spend up to £2,000 per transaction at POS and no more than £30,000 per year. The card can hold a maximum of £6,000 at any time.²

Remember that some retailers may have their own limits or fees in addition to those of the TUI travel card.

What exchange rate does TUI use?

The TUI travel card uses the exchange rate set by Mastercard. If you pay in a currency not loaded on your card, a 3% fee will apply.²
