Can you send large transfers with TSB Bank?

Yes, TSB lets you transfer large amounts using your personal current account. You can do it online, via mobile banking, over the phone and in a local branch.

There are a few different options available, starting with Faster Payments. This is what most UK banks use to make near-instant payments between UK accounts.

With TSB, you can send immediate payments of up to £25,000 online or via mobile banking, up to £10,000 by phone or up to £100,000 in a TSB branch (just remember to take photo ID with you).¹

Need to send more? For larger payments, you can use CHAPS. This stands for Clearing House Automated Payment System, and it’s specially designed for making fast, secure large transfers. It doesn’t usually have any minimum or maximum limits on how much you can send.

Like with other UK banks, TSB charges a fee for CHAPS payments, and this type of payment can only be set up in branch.¹

You can also send international payments of up to £75,000 per day with TSB,¹ but this may involve money transfer fees.

TSB transfer limits

Here’s an at‑a‑glance summary of TSB transfer limits for Faster Payments, CHAPS and international transfers:¹

Transfer methodTSB transfer limit
Internal transfers (between TSB accounts)£1,000,000 per transfer
Faster Payments- Up to £10,000 per day by phone

- Up to £25,000 per day online

- Up to £100,000 per day in branch

CHAPS paymentNo minimum or maximum limit
International paymentsUp to £75,000 per day

It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to increase these limits, but you can try visiting a TSB branch in person to discuss options and limits - a staff member will help you choose the most appropriate method for your payment and guide you through the process.

What’s the maximum amount you can send with TSB?

The maximum you can send with TSB to another UK account is £100,000 per day,¹ if you visit a branch with a valid photo ID.

If you need to send more than this, you can use CHAPS for an extra fee.

If you’re sending money overseas, the maximum you can transfer is £75,000 per day.¹

Can you send multiple large transfers per day?

You can send multiple large payments per day with TSB, but you won’t be able to exceed your daily sending limit.

How to transfer large amounts with TSB: Step-by-step process

If you already have an account with TSB, it’s pretty straightforward to set up your first transfer - even if it is a large sum you’re sending.

To send a large payment with TSB using Faster Payments, the easiest option is to use online or mobile banking.

Here are the recipient details and other info you’ll need to have ready:

  • The recipient’s name as it appears on their bank account
  • Their bank account number and sort code
  • The type of account (personal or business)

You’ll need additional details if you’re sending money abroad:

  • The name, account number and address of the person or company you’re paying
  • The recipient’s International Bank Account Number (IBAN)
  • The SWIFT/BIC code for their bank

To set up your transfer, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to online or mobile banking
  2. Select ‘Make a payment’ - or ‘Move money’ if using the TSB app
  3. Choose a recipient or add the details of a new one - this may involve additional verification steps
  4. Enter the amount you want to send
  5. Add a reference (optional)
  6. Complete the security verification steps - this may be a phone call where you need to enter an on-screen code into your phone
  7. Check the details and confirm.

To send money abroad, you’ll follow the steps above, but you’ll also need to select the country you’re sending to and the currency. You can send international payments via the TSB mobile app, but there are fewer currencies available compared to using online banking, phone or in-branch services.

If you prefer, you can also visit a branch of TSB in person to send your payment. This can be best for sending payments above your daily online sending limit, or for setting up a CHAPS payment.

Just remember that you’ll need to take ID documents along with you, and that there may be additional fees for in-branch services (such as for sending a CHAPS payment, for example).
