How to send money via Google Pay to India from the UK

Living in the UK, and need to send money to someone in India? It may be a friend or a relative, or perhaps you have business interests or bills to pay over in India.

There are lots of ways to send money from the UK to India, including convenient money apps and online transfer websites.

But is it possible to send money via Google Pay? You may be interested in finding out about this if you use the mobile wallet app in your day-to-day life. Read on to find out how to send money via Google Pay to India from the UK.

Is it possible to send money to India from the UK via Google Pay?

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to send money from the UK to India directly in the Google Pay app. There is a feature for international transfers, but it’s only available in certain countries.

At present, you can only use it to send money from these countries:¹

  • The US
  • India

To send money to these countries:¹

  • India
  • Singapore.

It’s not currently available in the UK, although this may change in the future.

However, the good news is that there is an alternative way you can use Google Pay to send money abroad - we’ll explain this next.

Why can’t I send money internationally with Google Pay UK?

In the UK, Google Pay mainly works as a digital wallet for contactless payments and online purchases. International peer-to-peer transfers are only enabled in a limited number of countries and regions. At the moment, the list includes just the US, India and Singapore (only available for sending money to).

Will Google Pay international transfers become available in the UK?

It’s certainly possible that Google may expand its international transfer features in the future, but there has been no official announcement about UK availability yet. It’s worth checking Google Pay support pages regularly for updates.

Are there fees for sending money to India with Google Pay?

Google Pay itself doesn’t usually charge a separate fee when used as a payment method. However, your transfer provider may charge transfer fees and exchange rate costs. This is why it’s always important to double-check the total cost before confirming your transfer.
