Discover what a P2P (peer-to-peer) transfer is and how to send or receive money with this simple and convenient payment method.
How long does it take to receive a new bank card in France? Is the delivery time the same after an automatic renewal or a cancellation? Let’s take a look.
The Wise card is delivered to your home within 14 days, anywhere in the European Economic Area. It’s linked to an account that lets you hold and convert 40+ different currencies.
The delivery time for a new bank card depends on several factors, including your bank, your location, and the reason for the request (new card, renewal, replacement, etc.).
Here are the usual timeframes:
Please note: these are indicative timeframes and may vary depending on your bank and location.
Delivery times mentioned here apply to mainland France. If you live in an overseas territory or outside France, it may take longer.
Some banks allow you to use your new card before the physical one arrives.
Once the card has been ordered, you may be able to add it to your digital wallet (Apple Pay or Google Pay, for instance) and start using it once you receive confirmation.
This allows you to make purchases directly from your mobile without waiting for the physical card.
If your bank doesn’t offer this option, make sure you have an alternative payment method. With the Wise card, you can make online or mobile payments as soon as your card is ordered.
Here’s an overview of card renewal and replacement timeframes at some of France’s main banks.
At La Banque Postale, new cards are sent at the beginning of the expiry month.
If your card expires on February 15, for example, your new one will arrive in early February.¹
If you request early renewal (such as after a cancellation), the new card is usually sent within 3 to 5 days.¹
At Crédit Mutuel de Bretagne, cards are renewed automatically. You’ll receive your new card at home around one month before your old one expires.
If your card has been cancelled, a replacement card is available within 8 days. The PIN code is sent to your home, while the card itself can be collected at your branch.²
At Société Générale, new cards are dispatched within 5 days of the renewal request.³
If you’re renewing your PIN code, the card is delivered directly to your home. Otherwise, you can choose between home delivery or branch collection.
If you’re a Crédit Agricole customer, your new card will be sent around 30 days before your current card expires.⁴
At BNP, cards are typically delivered during the same month your old card expires.
If you’ve requested delivery to a branch, contact your advisor to confirm.
In case of cancellation, the replacement card is usually ready within 5 working days.⁵
A few weeks before your card expires, CIC will notify you that your new card is on its way.
Once dispatched, delivery usually takes 5 to 7 days.⁶
At BoursoBank (formerly Boursorama), delivery takes 5 to 8 days after the order is placed. If you live in an overseas territory, it may take longer. BoursoBank also offers international delivery.⁷
If your card is part of a standard renewal, you’ll keep your existing PIN code. Simply activate your new card by making a withdrawal or an in-store purchase.
If your previous card was cancelled, you’ll receive a new PIN code at home and the card itself at your branch (or by post if requested).
You’ll need to activate it at an ATM by entering your PIN code.
Most cards can be used the same day they’re received, provided you’ve activated them.
