Revolut card review in Czechia: card selection, prices, service fees, and limits

Olesya Mets

When traveling abroad, paying with a card is the easiest option. And if you need cash, you can simply withdraw it from an ATM using your card. However, this involves currency exchange, which isn't exactly cost-effective with a standard Czech bank card. That's where services like Revolut come in, designed for international payments. Find out what a Revolut card offers and how beneficial it is.

We will also present the Wise card, a multicurrency debit card that allows you to spend in +40 currencies, always converting your money at the mid-market exchange rate without mark-ups.

What is Revolut and what is the Revolut card used for?

Revolut is a digital bank focused on international payments, whether it's transfers, card payments, or online transactions. You get a European IBAN with your account and can currently hold up to 38 currencies¹ on it, which you can exchange or transfer at better rates than with regular banks. This also applies to the Revolut card, so if you pay in a foreign currency that you don't currently have in your account, Revolut will convert the money for you at a favorable rate. If you already hold that currency in your Revolut account, no exchange is needed.

How much does a Revolut card cost?

Usually, you have to pay a delivery fee² for a Revolut card, which should be around 200 CZK. However, you can completely avoid this fee if you opt for one of the paid account plans. Revolut offers a total of five plans, with four of them requiring a monthly fee. Naturally, the higher the plan, the more comprehensive the account and card services become.

Revolut card – fees and features

Revolut offers five types of cards depending on your account type. All paid plans offer two free cards, while the free plan offers only one. For each additional card, you pay a fee that depends on the card type.

Card TypePrice
Standard Replacement Card²140 CZK
Plus Card⁴300 CZK
Premium Card⁵300 CZK
Metal Card⁶1,190 CZK
Ultra Card (Platinum)⁷1,450 CZK

The following conditions apply:

  • You cannot have two Metal cards for free. If your first free card is a Metal card, you can only get cards of lower categories for free. You will be charged for an additional Metal card.
  • With the Ultra account, you cannot get a Metal card as your second free card – you must pay for it.
  • You can only have an Ultra card with the Ultra plan. However, if you want a second one, you must pay for it.
  • You can have up to 6 active physical cards, 20 active virtual cards, and 1 active single-use virtual card associated with your account.⁸

ATM withdrawal fees and cashback on payments

How much does an ATM withdrawal cost with Revolut? You get a certain amount of free withdrawals per month. After exceeding this limit, you pay 2% of the withdrawn amount, with a minimum of 1 EUR.³

Card TypeFree Withdrawals
Standard Card²Up to 4,500 CZK / 5 withdrawals
Personalized Plus Card⁴Up to 4,500 CZK
Personalized Premium Card⁵Up to 9,000 CZK
Personalized Metal Card⁶Up to 22,000 CZK
Platinum Ultra Card⁷Up to 55,000 CZK

⚠️ For all cards, Revolut has an ATM withdrawal limit of 3,000 GBP or the equivalent in another currency per 24 hours.⁹

Exchange Fee

You can hold up to 38 currencies in your Revolut account. If you don't have the currency you're withdrawing or paying with in your account, your money will be converted automatically. Revolut may charge you a variable fee for this – it all depends on your limits, the specific currency combination, and the day. For example, with Standard and Plus plans, you cannot avoid an extra exchange fee on weekends.

Please note that with Standard and Plus accounts, you also have an exchange limit. Once you exchange more than 25,000 CZK (Standard) or 75,000 CZK (Plus) per month, you will pay 1% or 0.5% of the amount for each subsequent transaction requiring conversion (Standard and Plus).⁹

Revolut Exchange Rate

Revolut offers more favorable exchange rates compared to traditional banks. Traditional banks add a markup to the mid-market rate. While Revolut doesn't use a pure rate either, it's close to it.

Compare the exchange rates of popular Czech banks' cards, the Revolut card, and the Wise card, which uses the mid-market rate. How much does 200 EUR cost in CZK? With Wise – that is, with the mid-market rate – it’s the least.
