Our methodology

All data for our tool was researched in 2024. We’ve totalled up the cost for staying for one night, 5 nights and one week in each destination with the assumption that travellers will eat out approximately twice a day.

Here’s where individual country data points were collected from:

  • Country Data: Countries were chosen based on the United Nations Tourism top 48 destinations by global region in 2022.
  • Country Hotels: Global country hotel prices were taken from the latest World Bank Hotel Index in US Dollars - all prices converted into target country source currency with added inflation up until 2023.
  • Cost of Beer, Meals (Mid Range and Inexpensive) and Taxi (1km): All country costs were taken from Numbeo.
  • Cost of ATM Fees: Wise’s own internal data looking at cash withdrawn using a Wise card at third party ATMs over a span of 12 months (April 2023-April 2024) at country level
