If you’re planning to travel from Australia to Fiji, using your Wise card for spending is convenient, secure, and cuts out the high foreign transaction fees typically charged by big Aussie banks. As well as using your regular Wise card, you can also get a Wise Young Explorer card for kids aged 6 - 17 to help them manage their pocket money for souvenirs.
Yes. The Wise card works in Fiji wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted. While many resorts and large shops in Nadi or Suva take card, Fiji is still very much a cash-centric society, especially once you head to the outer islands or local markets.
Your card will work for hotels, tour operators, and larger restaurants. For the local villages or small craft markets, you'll want to use your Wise card to grab some FJD cash from an ATM.
Have yet to get your card? Here’s the easy guide on how to order a Wise card in Australia:
- Open your Wise account, get verified, and add a balance in AUD via PayID or bank transfer.
- In the Wise app, go to the "Card" tab and select "Order physical card".
- Enter your shipping address, set a PIN, and confirm your details.
- Pay the one-time fee of 10 AUD and your card will be dispatched.
Your card usually arrives in 7 - 14 days. You can also immediately add your digital card details to Apple Pay or Google Pay to start spending online or at contactless terminals before the physical card hits your mailbox.
Once your account is set up, you can top up in AUD. You cannot directly hold Fijian Dollars (FJD) in a Wise account but you can just let the card's auto-conversion tool handle it at the moment you tap your card. You get the mid-market rate and low, transparent fees.
In Fiji, major resorts, supermarkets (like Tappoo or Jack’s), and upscale restaurants use Chip and PIN or contactless terminals. It’s a secure way to pay for your reef diving or dinner without carrying heaps of cash.
Add your Wise card to Apple Pay or Google Pay. This is becoming more common in tourist hubs, allowing you to pay with your phone or watch. It’s also a great backup if you leave your physical wallet in the hotel safe while heading to the pool.
With Wise, you can make unlimited withdrawals up to 400 AUD per month with no fee. A 2.69% fee then applies to any amount in excess of the monthly free withdrawal allowance*. ATMs are available at Nadi International Airport and in major towns.
*Wise will not charge you for these withdrawals, but some additional charges may occur from independent ATM networks.
Whether you're booking your flights or buying souvenirs in Savusavu, you can continue to use your Wise card throughout Fiji. You'll enjoy your travels with no foreign transaction fees and simple, transparent pricing.
*Please see terms of use and product availability for your region or visit Wise fees and pricing for the most up to date pricing and fee information.
