We understand it's concerning to receive an email that we're suspending your Wise account. We know this can be disruptive, and we never take this decision lightly.
We may need to suspend your account while we perform a mandatory regulatory compliance check.
As a regulated financial institution, Wise is legally required by international and partnership regulations to confirm if its customers hold, or are related to someone who holds a position as Politically Exposed Person (PEP).
A politically exposed person is someone who’s given a prominent public function — including high ranking positions in state enterprises.
Our policies are in place to keep money safe for everyone, and they're a key part of how we're regulated.
While your account is suspended, you can't:
Add money to your account
Receive money into your account
Pay for bills using Direct Debits (any existing Direct Debits will be cancelled)
What can I do to unsuspend my account?
In order to unsuspend your account, you must provide the following information by email:
Have you ever held an elected position or been appointed or employed by a government, state entity, or state-owned enterprise?
Are you aware of any personal relationship you may have to somebody like this? Please see the description of possible positions here.
If yes, please let us know the position, and the timeframe of the appointment.
Kindly confirm your current job title as well as the name of your employer.
Note, your account will unfortunately remain suspended until we receive and verify your response.
Can I appeal this decision?
Our decision to suspend an account may be lifted once we complete our review with the answers you provide. However, if you feel there has been a misunderstanding, you can appeal. Learn more about making an appeal.
